How to determine your car value

For affordable cars: own market research

You can narrow down the value of your used car yourself via marketplaces such as mobile.de and Autoscout24.

The most important factors when comparing prices are:

- First registration
- Mileage
- Optional equipment
- Maintenance condition
- History

Unfortunately, it is not always easy to evaluate a car yourself without real sales experience. For one thing, you can only go by current advertisements, but you can't see whether they are being sold at all. Secondly, it is difficult to weigh up equipment against each other without experience. Every car is different and the equipment must be weighted differently depending on the model. It is impossible to say whether a panoramic roof increases the value more than a sports package without model experience.

For classic and exotic cars: Valuation reports

You can also have your car valued by an appraiser.

The appraiser will fully inspect your car and take into account both visual and technical defects.

An appraisal gives you a neutral assessment of your car, which is also an argument for potential buyers. The disadvantage, however, is that this type of valuation is very expensive. An appraiser is usually used for particularly rare or high-priced vehicles. Another disadvantage is that list values often do not correspond to prices on the open market.

For expensive cars and sports cars: Offer from Boventa

You can also have your car valued by simply asking a dealer to make you an offer.

The right dealer has a lot of experience with real purchases and sales, and valuing cars is part of their day-to-day business. A dealer will also proceed in a similar way to an expert when valuing a car, taking appearance and technology into account.

One major advantage is that your vehicle will be valued on the actual market. The dealer's experience can significantly increase the price.

More about car sales

There are only two ways to sell a car privately:

Sell to private

Creating your own advertisements, processing sales inquiries and carrying out viewings is a lot of work. In addition, the risk of fraud is very high.

However, the risk can be worth it, as the sales price is usually the highest, especially for inexpensive cars. This is not always the case with more expensive cars that tend to be financed.

Sell to dealers

Depending on the dealer, selling your car can range from very simple to very complicated. You have to choose carefully, preferably a dealer who has a lot of experience with your model.

With us, you can rate your car online from the comfort of your own home. You enter all the necessary data, upload photos and receive a non-binding offer for your car. Whether you accept the offer or not is then up to you.

Selling to a dealer is particularly worthwhile for expensive cars. These cars are particularly difficult to sell privately, as financing is usually required. This lowers demand and therefore the price.

Alternatively, you can also trade in your old car as part of the purchase of a new vehicle.
